Restorative Dentistry Costs: Fillings, Crowns, Root Canals and Dentures
For anyone pricing restorative treatment, this page sets out three lines from the Deepcar Dental Care fee list as shown on 17 October 2026. It explains how fees for fillings, crowns, root canal treatment and dentures are built, what changes a fee and how NHS charges work in England. The core point: dividing a fee by the years a restoration typically lasts gives a second way to compare options.

How are restorative dental fees built?
Restorative treatments differ in the clinical time and materials they need. A small white filling needs less of both than a crown, which is why restorative fees span such a wide range.
The practice fee list says final fees are determined only after assessment, and depend on diagnosis, complexity, the materials required and the time needed to provide treatment safely. No overseas laboratory work is used at Deepcar Dental Care. Laboratory work goes to more than one laboratory, chosen to suit the case.
What does the fee list show for fillings, crowns and dentures?
The table shows three restorative lines from the practice fee list, each under its own line name, as the list read on 17 October 2026. The fee list says all its prices are "from" prices, based on individual clinical needs.
| Fee list line | Fee on the fee list |
|---|---|
| White Composite Filling | £150 to £220 |
| All Ceramic Crowns & Veneers | From £750 to £1,000 |
| Partial Acrylic Dentures | From £650 to £950 |
The fee list gives the Root Canal and Full Dentures lines as single figures rather than ranges. Inlays and onlays, bridges, post crowns, and flexible and immediate dentures have no line on the current fee list. To ask about any of these, call 0114 288 2121.
How does cost per year of service compare a filling, crown and denture?
Cost per year of service is a fee divided by the years a restoration lasts. It shows how a restoration with a higher fee and a longer life can compare over time with one that costs less on the day but needs replacing sooner.
Realistic lifespan ranges give the years: a white filling typically lasts 5 to 10 years, a crown 5 to 20 years (this range is for crowns only), and a denture 5 to 10 years before it needs a reline or remake. Each range depends on the individual patient, their oral hygiene and their habits, so it describes typical outcomes, not what your own restoration will do. The lowest fee on the day is not always the lowest cost over the years.
A large filling and a crown are not interchangeable, because the choice depends on the tooth. NHS guidance says crowns can be fitted where a tooth has broken, decayed or been damaged. A review of back-tooth white fillings (Opdam and colleagues, 2014) found that fillings covering more surfaces were more likely to fail, mainly through decay and fracture. If you are unsure which a tooth needs, the page on working out which option suits explains how the choice is made.
What do root canal treatment and a crown cost together?
If a tooth needs a crown after root canal treatment, the overall cost includes the crown as well as the root canal treatment. The Root Canal line on the fee list has no upper figure, so the overall cost depends on the tooth.
At Deepcar Dental Care, root canal treatment is carried out by a dentist with a special interest in root canal treatment. The page on treating an infected tooth explains how the treatment saves the tooth, and the page on root canal or extraction compares the costs of each route over time.

What changes a restorative fee?
A restorative fee changes with the damage to the tooth, where it sits and the time and materials safe treatment needs. The practice fee list names these factors:
- the extent of decay, damage or wear
- the position and accessibility of the tooth
- the condition of the surrounding gum and bone
- the time and materials required for safe treatment
What can a published fee list not tell you?
A published fee list is a general guide to typical costs, not a treatment plan or a fixed quote for your own care. The practice fee list notes that complex cases may require more than one visit, that additional treatment may be required if new findings are identified during care, and that estimates may change if clinical conditions differ from the initial assessment.
How many visits do restorative treatments take?
At Deepcar Dental Care, a white filling appointment takes around 60 minutes, and root canal treatment typically takes 1 to 2 visits. A crown takes 2 to 3 visits, around 1 week from preparation to fitting. A bridge takes 2 to 3 visits, an inlay or onlay 2 visits and a full denture 1 to 4 visits.
How do NHS dental charges work in England?
NHS dental charges in England are grouped into three bands, according to NHS guidance. If you need a mix of treatments from the same band, you pay that band charge once.
- Band 1, £27.90: an examination, X-rays if clinically needed, and scaling if clinically needed
- Band 2, £76.60: everything in Band 1, and can also include fillings, root canal treatment and extractions
- Band 3, £332.10: everything in Bands 1 and 2, and can also include crowns, inlays and onlays, dentures and bridges
NHS guidance says white fillings are available on the NHS when clinically necessary. The page on NHS bands explains what it costs to have treatment under each band.
Frequently asked questions
Is a dental crown available on the NHS?
NHS guidance says crowns are usually available on the NHS. In England, crowns are among the treatments Band 3 may include, currently £332.10. Band 3 includes all items in Bands 1 and 2. A course mixing treatments from different bands is charged at the highest band, so one with a filling and a crown is charged at Band 3.
Why do some fees on a dental fee list appear as a range?
A range shows that the same treatment can need more or less work from one tooth to the next. General Dental Council standards say dental professionals must give clear information on prices on their websites, so patients do not have to ask, and that items which may vary in cost can be shown as a 'from' to 'to' range.
Is a crown always needed after root canal treatment?
Not always. NHS guidance says the tooth is filled and sealed after treatment, and a crown may be needed if the tooth was badly infected. At Deepcar Dental Care, a crown after root canal treatment is placed soon after where the tooth is at higher risk, or after around 3 months to let the tooth settle, decided case by case.
How often do dentures need to be reviewed?
At Deepcar Dental Care, dentures are reviewed every 6 to 12 months. NHS guidance says dentures can last for years if you look after them properly, but it is important to keep seeing your dentist regularly. They can loosen as the gums and jawbone change shape, and immediate dentures often need adjusting or replacing up to a year later.
What does the 12-month aftercare cover include?
At Deepcar Dental Care, 12 months of aftercare cover applies to fillings, crowns and bridges, dentures, and porcelain veneers. It gives free repair, free replacement or remake, and free adjustments. The cover does not apply where damage results from accidental trauma or infection, and for dentures, gum recession is also excluded.
