Huddersfield's implant market and where Deepcar fits

Huddersfield has more implant-focused clinics than most towns its size, and the better ones do publish prices: a single tooth is typically £2,300 to £2,900 in the HD postcodes, and a full arch is commonly quoted above £11,000. One or two pages lead with very large case numbers. What almost all of them leave out is time. How many weeks between the extraction and the implant? How long before the crown goes on? What happens in the gap, and what makes it run late? Those are the questions a patient with a wedding or a holiday in the diary actually asks.

Deepcar Dental Care is a private practice in Deepcar, near Stocksbridge, 35 to 40 minutes from Huddersfield town centre by the A616. Implants here are planned on an in-house CBCT scanner and placed and restored by one dentist, Dr Ibraheem Ijaz, who has placed over 200 since 2022. A single tooth starts at £2,400 complete. The practice is open 8am to 8pm every day of the week, which matters when you are fitting a run down the valley around work, and patients rate it 5.0 on Google from more than 400 reviews.

From first scan to final tooth: the real timeline

The honest answer for a straightforward single implant is three to four months. With a graft it is six to nine. Here is where the weeks go.

Week 0: consultation and CBCT

An hour with Dr Ijaz, a CBCT scan (a 3D image that takes about twenty seconds to capture) and a written plan with dates and prices. The consultation is £100 and comes off your treatment. If the failing tooth is still in place, it is usually removed at the next visit.

Weeks 0 to 12: letting the socket heal

After an extraction the socket fills with new bone over eight to twelve weeks. Placing the implant straight into a fresh socket is possible for some front teeth, but for most patients waiting gives a firmer start. If a graft is placed at the extraction to keep the ridge wide, this stage stretches to four to six months.

Placement day

Forty-five to ninety minutes under local anaesthetic, or with sedation if you want it. The implant goes in, the gum is closed with a few dissolving stitches, and for a front tooth you leave with a temporary so you are never seen without one. Most people are back at work the next day. Soreness peaks on day two and fades by day four.

The quiet months: integration

Bone cells grow onto the roughened titanium surface until the implant is locked in place. This takes about eight to twelve weeks in the lower jaw, where bone is denser, and three to six months in the upper. Nothing visible happens and there is little to do beyond keeping it clean. A review at two weeks and a check before the next stage are all that is needed.

The last three weeks: scan, crown, fit

Once the implant is solid, a small healing cap shapes the gum for a week or so, a digital scan replaces the old putty impression, and the laboratory makes the crown. Fitting takes half an hour. A one-year review with an X-ray checks the bone level. Full-arch cases run differently: a fixed temporary bridge is usually fitted within days of surgery and the final bridge four to six months later.

What slows it down: smoking, an infection at the site, thin bone found on the scan, a sinus lift (add six months), and missed reviews. What speeds it up: healthy gums before you start and an implant system with a proven surface. We use Neodent, Straumann and Nobel Biocare. Our main implants page covers the treatment types in more detail.

Questions, answered

Questions from Huddersfield patients

How many trips down the A616 will a single implant take?

Typically five or six over three to six months: consultation, placement, a two-week check, the scan for the crown, the fitting and a review. We schedule around the drive where we can, including evenings and weekends.

Can I keep my own dentist in Huddersfield for check-ups?

Yes. Many patients keep their Huddersfield dentist for routine care and hygiene and come to Deepcar only for the implant stages. We send your dentist a summary and the scan report if you ask us to.

Can it all be done in a day?

Placing an implant and fitting a temporary tooth on the same day is possible in selected cases, mostly front teeth with good bone and full-arch bridges. The final crown or bridge still waits for the bone to integrate, so no honest clinic can give you a permanent tooth in a day.

My tooth came out years ago. Is it too late?

Usually not, but the ridge will have shrunk, so the scan decides whether a graft is needed first. That can add a few months to the timeline rather than rule you out.

Do you do implant appointments on a Saturday or Sunday?

Yes. The practice is open 8am to 8pm seven days a week, and placement visits can be booked at weekends. Out-of-hours charges apply to emergency care, not to planned implant appointments.

How much longer does a graft add?

A small graft placed at the same time as the implant adds nothing to the calendar. A graft done first adds roughly three to four months; a sinus lift done first adds around six. You will see which applies on your written plan.
