Veneers & crowns
A crown is a precisely made cap that covers the whole tooth, restoring strength where a large filling would fail. A veneer is a thin ceramic facing bonded to the front of a tooth to change its shape, colour or alignment. Both are made from modern all-ceramic materials with no metal, so they look like natural teeth in every light.
We keep preparation as conservative as possible and always discuss the alternatives, including composite bonding, which can achieve similar aesthetic results with far less enamel removal in suitable cases.

The journey
Examination, X-rays and a discussion of shade, shape and alternatives. You receive a written plan with a fixed price.
The tooth is gently shaped, a digital scan is taken and a temporary is fitted while the laboratory makes your restoration.
Around two weeks later your crown or veneer is tried in, checked for fit, bite and colour, then bonded permanently.

Questions, answered
With good hygiene and regular check-ups, ten to fifteen years or more is typical. One of our patients’ porcelain veneers are still going strong after twenty years.
Bonding is quicker, cheaper and reversible; veneers are stronger, more stain-resistant and better for larger changes. We will advise honestly which suits your teeth.
Preparation is done under local anaesthetic and is comfortable. Some mild sensitivity with the temporary is normal and settles once the final restoration is fitted.
