Search for crowns or veneers in Worksop and the top result is a clinic in Rotherham with a “Worksop” page and directions for the drive. The town’s own practices, on Kingsley and Potter Street and around the Priory, list crowns among their treatments without a price, a material or a timeline. So most Worksop patients are travelling anyway; the question is where to, and whether the practice at the other end will tell you the truth about what the tooth needs.

For a damaged back tooth there are five real options. They differ in how much tooth is kept, how long they last and what they cost. Here they are in order of how much of your own tooth survives.
Bonded white filling, £150 to £220.
Ceramic onlay, priced on your plan.
All-ceramic crown, £750 to £1,000.
Porcelain veneer, £750 to £1,000.
Extraction and implant, from £2,400.
The deciding factor is usually the crack. A crack confined to the crown of the tooth can be held together by a crown or onlay; a crack that has reached the root cannot, and crowning it wastes £750 and two years. We look for it with a bite test and transillumination, a bright light shone through the tooth that makes a crack show as a dark line. Take the A57 west to the M1 at junction 31, head north to junction 35A, then follow the A616 towards Manchester across the moor for six miles. Leave at the Stocksbridge junction and follow Manchester Road (A6102) down into Deepcar; the practice is at number 334 with free parking outside. Because the nearest practice ranking for Worksop is in Rotherham anyway, and Deepcar offers a fixed price, one dentist throughout and weekend appointments. Two trips, a fortnight apart, is the whole treatment.
We need our own X-rays and bite test to plan a crown, but the £85 examination is quick and we can often prepare the tooth at the same visit if you ask when booking.
Usually a little, and it keeps more tooth. It is priced on your written plan because the size varies. We suggest it whenever the tooth has enough sound walls.
For a back molar, an NHS metal or bonded crown under Band 3 at £332.10 is a sound restoration if you can get an appointment. All-ceramic crowns and veneers are private treatments.
