Worksop patients travel around 45 minutes to Deepcar Dental Care for implants, and many choose to have the surgery under sedation. This page explains how that works.

Worksop and the villages around it have several practices offering implants, and a couple advertise same-day implants and intravenous sedation. Prices are mostly absent, or given as a range so wide (£1,800 to £20,000 is typical) that it tells you nothing, with the monthly finance figure in bigger type than the treatment. None of the Worksop pages explain what sedation costs, what it feels like, or the one practical thing a patient forty-five minutes from home most needs to know: that you cannot drive yourself back afterwards.
Deepcar Dental Care is a private practice in Deepcar, north of Sheffield, about 45 minutes from Worksop by the A57 and M1. Sedation here is £200 a session, the implant surgery is done by Dr Ibraheem Ijaz, who has placed more than 200 implants since 2022, and the practice has a long record with anxious patients: a 5.0 Google rating from over 400 reviews, many of them from people who had put off treatment for years. Prices are published on the fees page, and the practice is open 8am to 8pm seven days a week.
Every implant is placed under local anaesthetic, so the surgery does not hurt whether you are sedated or not. Most patients have local alone and are surprised how little there is to it. Sedation is for the people for whom the problem is not pain but the thought of it: the sounds, the time in the chair, the not knowing. If that is you, say so at the consultation and nobody will talk you out of it.
A small cannula goes into a vein on the back of your hand and a sedative, usually midazolam, is given in small doses until you are deeply relaxed. You are not asleep. You can answer questions and follow instructions, but you stop caring what is happening, time compresses, and most people remember little or nothing afterwards. Many patients say the cannula going in was the worst part of the whole day. It is not a general anaesthetic; that needs a hospital and is not something we offer or something implant surgery normally needs. Our sedation page covers the details.
Before: a light meal a couple of hours ahead, no alcohol the night before, take your usual medicines unless told otherwise, and wear something with loose sleeves. During: your pulse and oxygen level are monitored throughout, and the surgery takes the same forty-five to ninety minutes it would without sedation. After: you rest for a while, then go home with your escort. For twenty-four hours you must not drive, work machinery, drink alcohol, sign anything important or be alone with small children. Your judgement is affected for longer than you feel it is.
A responsible adult must bring you, stay in the building for the appointment, drive you home and stay with you for the rest of the day. That is not a formality; we will not sedate you without one. From Worksop it means someone giving up most of a day, so it is worth deciding early whether you want sedation for the placement visit only (the usual choice) and having the consultation, scan and crown fitting without it, driving yourself.
If you would rather manage without sedation, tell us that too. A longer appointment, an agreed stop signal, headphones, and a dentist who explains each step before doing it get most nervous patients through comfortably. Sedation is also not for everyone: certain lung and liver conditions, some medicines and a very high body weight need discussion first.

Leave Worksop on the A57 westbound past Anston to the M1 at junction 31, head north to junction 35A and take the A616 towards Stocksbridge. Come off at the Stocksbridge and Deepcar exit and follow Manchester Road; Deepcar Dental Care is number 334, with free parking directly outside. Allow 45 minutes, and add fifteen if you are on the M1 through Sheffield between 4pm and 6pm. The practice is on the ground floor, which matters when you are walking out a little unsteady after sedation.

Yes. They need to be in the building while you are sedated and to drive you home. There is a waiting area, and Fox Valley in Stocksbridge is five minutes away if they want a coffee before or after, but not during.
In healthy adults, with monitoring and a trained team, it has a long safety record. We take a full medical history first and will decline if we think it is not right for you.
No. General anaesthetic is only given in hospital and is rarely justified for implant surgery. Conscious sedation gets the vast majority of anxious patients through without any memory of it.
It is not needed and not usually offered; the consultation involves looking, measuring and a scan, and you will want to be clear-headed for the conversation about your plan.
Usually one, for the surgical visit when the implants are placed. Fitting the temporary and final bridges is done without it.
