Whitening in Worksop is mostly sold as a promotion: a headline of around £250, described as half the usual price, from a chain practice, with no detail about the system, the examination fee or what happens if your teeth have fillings that show. Practices in Rotherham list Worksop among the towns they serve but say nothing about the treatment itself. Neither helps if you are trying to plan whitening alongside bonding, a veneer or a crown, which is the situation most Worksop patients who ring us are in.
Deepcar is forty-five minutes from Worksop, which is a real distance, so we are honest about it: you will make three or four short trips over about six weeks if you are combining whitening with bonding. In return you get a fixed total, £350 for home whitening or £550 for Enlighten, a £85 examination with X-rays, the same dentist planning and doing everything, appointments until 8pm seven days a week, and a written plan that puts whitening and the restorative work in the right order at the right price. Worksop patients already come to us for implants on the same basis.
The single most useful thing to know about whitening is that it changes natural tooth only. Composite, porcelain and metal stay exactly the colour they were made. That one fact sets the order of everything else.
If a front tooth is going to be bonded, veneered or crowned, whiten before it is made. The lab or the dentist then matches the new work to your brightest shade rather than to the one you are about to leave behind. Do it the other way round and the new tooth looks yellow next to its whitened neighbours, and the only fix is to remake it. For veneers and crowns we usually recommend Enlighten, because it aims for a predictable endpoint at the top of the shade guide, and a predictable endpoint is what a lab needs.
This is the step most people have never heard of. For around a fortnight after the last whitening session, oxygen left in the enamel interferes with the adhesive used for composite bonding and for cementing veneers; bonds made too soon are weaker and more likely to chip or come away. The shade also keeps settling over those two weeks as the enamel rehydrates. So we book bonding or the veneer fitting no sooner than fourteen days after your review.
If you already have a white filling or a crown on a front tooth, it will not lighten. At the examination we show you which restorations would look dark after whitening and quote for replacing them afterwards: a white filling is £150 to £220, an all-ceramic crown £750 to £1,000. That way the whitening budget is the real budget. Old silver fillings on back teeth do not matter for this.
A front tooth that is greyer than its neighbours usually has a dead nerve, often from a knock years earlier. Tray whitening will lighten the teeth around it and make it stand out more. The right sequence is root canal treatment, then whitening from inside that tooth, then whitening the rest, then any bonding.
If you are having clear aligners, whiten at the end. Teeth that have just moved have new contact points and the trays would need remaking otherwise, and any bonding to tidy edges comes after both.
