Penistone's own practices offer whitening but none of them publish a price for it online, and the Barnsley practices that advertise to Penistone patients quote a fifteen-to-twenty-minute drive in the other direction, also without a price. So a Penistone patient searching for whitening ends up with a list of phone calls to make. We are the same distance down the A616, we publish both fees, and we are open until 8pm every day of the week including Sundays.
What Penistone patients get here: a £85 new patient examination with X-rays, custom trays made from a digital scan, the gel, the review and written aftercare all inside the £350 or £550 fee, and the same dentist at every visit. Dr Ibraheem Ijaz prescribes the gel and records your shades. People worry about two opposite things: that it will not work, and that it will look false. A good whitening result avoids both, and there are simple ways to check it.
Dentists grade tooth colour on a guide of sixteen tabs. The whitest natural tab is called B1; most adults start somewhere around A2 to A3. We hold the guide against your teeth and photograph it before you start, and again at the review, in the same light. The mirror lies, because you look at your teeth every day and stop noticing change; the photographs do not. A typical home course moves people several tabs up the guide; Enlighten is designed to reach B1.
Natural teeth are not one flat colour. The biting edges are slightly translucent, the necks near the gum are slightly warmer, and the canines, the pointed teeth at the corners, are the darkest teeth in the mouth. A good result keeps that pattern and lifts everything together. Because canines start darker and have thicker dentine, they whiten more slowly, so about a week into the course your smile can look uneven, with bright front teeth and yellower corners. That is normal and it evens out by the end. If it does not, we extend the course for the canines only.
Small white flecks on enamel, which some people have from childhood, can look brighter for a few days after whitening and then blend back in. What should not happen is a chalky, opaque look across whole teeth, which is a sign of over-whitening or of gel far stronger than a dentist would prescribe. Grey does not come from whitening; if a tooth stays grey while its neighbours lighten, the nerve inside has probably died and that tooth needs treating separately.
The old rule of thumb is that teeth should be no whiter than the whites of your eyes. Beyond that they read as false in photographs. Whitening cannot take you past your brightest natural shade anyway, which is why it always looks like your own teeth, only cleaner. If the look you want is whiter than that, the honest conversation is about veneers, and we will have it with you rather than sell you gel.

Take the A616 south out of Penistone past the Flouch turn and along the Stocksbridge bypass, leave at the Deepcar junction, and turn onto Manchester Road (A6102). We are at 334 Manchester Road, on the main road with free parking directly outside. About 15 minutes from the town centre, a little more from Thurlstone or Millhouse Green.
