Dronfield is unusual in that its practices name their systems. You will see Enlighten and Boutique on the independent practices' pages, and an in-surgery light system at the chain practice. What you will not see is a price for any of them, or a clear steer on which to choose. One page describes Enlighten as three visits ending with a 70-minute session and Boutique as two to three weeks at home, which is accurate, and then leaves you to guess what each costs and which suits you.
We offer the same two kinds of whitening, a custom home system at £350 and Enlighten at £550, and we would rather you chose between them knowing the trade-offs. Both start with a £85 examination including X-rays, both use trays made from a digital scan, and both are prescribed and reviewed by the same dentist. The practice is 40 minutes from Dronfield and open until 8pm seven days a week, so the visits fit around work. Our Google reviews include plenty of patients who travel further than that.
Predictability. Ordinary home whitening takes you as far as your teeth will go in two to three weeks, and for most people that is a clear, obvious change. But some teeth are slower: heavy tea drinkers, older patients with thicker dentine, and anyone with a hint of grey. Enlighten's in-practice session finishes the job under supervision and is designed to reach the top of the shade guide, B1, which is why it is the system we use when a front tooth is about to be bonded or veneered and the new work has to match the brightest you can be.
If your teeth are mildly yellow from tea and age, and you want to look fresher rather than film-star white, home whitening will get you there and the extra £200 buys little. If your budget is fixed, the £350 system with a top-up in a year is better value than nothing. And if the examination finds a single dark tooth with a dead nerve, neither system is the answer; that tooth needs root canal treatment and whitening from inside first.
Neither changes crowns, veneers or fillings, so both start with a check of every front tooth for existing work. Both leave enamel more porous for around 48 hours after each session, so both need a pale diet through the course. Both give you trays you keep for years. And both are legal only because a GDC-registered dentist prescribes gel at up to 6% hydrogen peroxide after an examination; salon whitening is not.

The quicker route is usually the M1: join at junction 29 near Chesterfield, north to junction 35A, then the A616 Stocksbridge bypass and off at the Deepcar junction onto Manchester Road (A6102). The alternative is the A61 straight through Sheffield and Hillsborough, then the A6102 through Oughtibridge. Allow 40 minutes either way, longer through the city at rush hour. Because we publish both prices, the examination is £85, and you can come in the evening or at the weekend. It is three or four short visits over a month.
The M1 to junction 35A avoids Sheffield's traffic and is usually 40 minutes. The A61 through the city is similar off-peak and slower at rush hour.
Usually less, because the serum toothpaste used through the course reduces sensitivity. Either way it is temporary.
Yes. Your trays are the same, so if you want to go further after a home course we add the in-practice session and charge the difference.
It is the whitest natural shade on the standard guide. Anything beyond it is a veneer, not a whitened tooth.
No. Crowns, veneers and fillings keep their colour with both systems, which is why whitening comes before any new front-tooth work.
