Dronfield’s bonding pages do one thing well: the leading one names the dentist who does the work, which is rarer than it should be. Then it stops. No fee, only a link to a fees page; no appointment length; no lifespan; no aftercare; and a ‘free consultation’ in place of a number. A free consultation is the moment you find out what it costs, and by then you have taken the afternoon off.
Deepcar is 40 minutes north, up the A61 through Sheffield or round on the M1 from junction 29 to 35A. Patients from Dronfield Woodhouse, Coal Aston, Unstone and Holmesfield come because the number is on this page: £300 per tooth, in a written plan, with the planning visit a £85 examination that includes photographs and a scan. Bonding is sold in three ways: a ‘from’ price per tooth, a package price for a ‘smile’, or a free consultation with the number revealed in person. Each hides something different, and knowing where to look saves you a wasted trip.
‘From £250’. The ‘from’ price is usually a small edge repair in one shade. A full front-tooth build in two layers, which is what most people picture when they think of bonding, is often priced higher on the day. Ask what the ‘from’ case actually is and what your teeth would cost. Our answer is that £300 is the price for a tooth, whether it is a corner or a full facing, and it does not move.
‘Smile packages’. Six or eight teeth for a round figure sounds simple, but check whether it includes the consultation, whether it includes whitening, and whether you actually need eight teeth. Most smiles show six upper teeth at a normal grin, and many people only need four. We price per tooth precisely so you can have three if three is what needs doing.
‘Free consultation’. Nobody works for free; the cost is inside the treatment fee. A free consultation also gives the practice a reason to sell on the day. We charge £85 for a proper planning visit and you leave with a written plan you can take away and think about, or take elsewhere.
What should be included in any quote. The per-tooth fee, the number of teeth, whether whitening is separate, whether a night guard is recommended and its cost, the repair policy, and the finance rate. If a quote is missing two of those, the total is not a total.
What the fee pays for. Not the resin, which costs a few pounds per tooth. It pays for planning on screen, for keeping the tooth dry under a rubber sheet so the bond holds, for two shades layered so the edge is translucent, for a bite check on marking paper and for a polish through four grades of disc. Bonding done in twenty minutes has skipped some of those, and it shows within a year. ‘No drilling’ is true, by the way: the enamel is etched with a mild acid gel for around 20 seconds so the resin can grip, and nothing is cut. From Dronfield take the A61 north through Meadowhead and the city centre, then Penistone Road past Hillsborough and the A6102 through Oughtibridge; we are at 334 Manchester Road on the left, about 40 minutes outside rush hour. The M1 to junction 35A is more reliable on weekday evenings. At weekends the A61 straight through Sheffield is fine and a little shorter.
