I called Friday evening to see if they had emergency appointments due to serious tooth pain. They were very polite and willing to accommodate. Due to me being a 45-minute drive away — the closest dentist I could find on Google that was open — they assured me they would see me when I got there. Upon arrival the staff were so polite and welcoming. The expertise and advice before the procedure was amazing. Definitely worth the trip to get the pain away. 100% recommend them.

Dronfield’s aligner options, and the patient they are not written for
The aligner pages serving Dronfield describe the process well enough, a scan, trays changed every two weeks, nine to eighteen months, but publish no fee, name no dentist and, in one case, explain that the plan is drawn up by the aligner company’s own planners for the practice to approve. Retainers are not mentioned at all, which is odd, because the single largest group of adults asking about aligners are people whose teeth were straight once and have moved since.
That is who this page is for. If you had a brace at fourteen, lost the retainer at nineteen and now dislike your lower front teeth at forty, you are the most common straightening patient at Deepcar Dental Care, and usually the easiest to treat. The fee starts at £1,495 per arch, the retainers are in it, the plan is written by the dentist who sees you throughout, and we are open 8am to 8pm seven days, which makes the 40 minutes from Dronfield practical.
Why straight teeth moved, and why the second time is usually easier
First, the myth. Wisdom teeth did not push your front teeth forward. The idea persists because crowding often appears in the late teens and twenties, when wisdom teeth arrive, but people with no wisdom teeth at all crowd up just the same. The real causes are less dramatic and more certain.
The retainer stopped.
Faces keep changing.
Grinding and lost teeth.
The good news is that relapse is usually partial. Teeth that were once aligned tend to move a couple of millimetres, not a centimetre, so a second course is nearly always a short one: fewer aligners, fewer months and, here, a lower fee than the childhood treatment cost even in today’s money. Most returning patients need one arch only, most often the lower, and finish in four to six months.
What is different about treating you as an adult: bone is denser and remodels a little more slowly, so wear time matters more; gums must be healthy before we start, because moving teeth through inflamed gums accelerates bone loss; and the retention at the end is planned as a permanent habit, with a removable retainer every night and, for lower front teeth that were badly crowded, a fine wire bonded behind them. The X-rays at the first visit also check for root shortening from the first course, which is uncommon but changes how far we would move a tooth again.

Questions, answered
Teeth straightening: questions from Dronfield patients
Is 40 minutes from Dronfield sensible for a short course of aligners?
For a relapse case it is usually five or six visits over four to six months, and we book them at 8am or after 6pm, or at weekends, so the drive is against empty roads. Most Dronfield patients find that easier than parking in Sheffield.
Which route from Dronfield is better?
The M1 in working hours, the A61 through Sheffield outside them. Sunday mornings the A61 is quickest of all.
My old fixed retainer wire is still there but the teeth have moved. Why?
Usually one section of the bond failed without you noticing, so the tooth on that side moved. We check the wire at the examination and usually replace it after aligning.
Will I need to wear retainers for ever this time?
Yes, at night. The alternative is a bonded wire that does the job without you thinking about it, and many returning patients choose both.
Does the practice send my scan away to be planned?
The aligners are made by a laboratory from our scan, but the movements are planned and checked by the dentist treating you, who also decides how far each tooth can safely go given your X-rays.
I lost a molar years ago and the teeth have tipped. Can that be fixed at the same time?
The front teeth can be aligned and the tipped tooth uprighted a little, then the gap replaced; our implants for Dronfield page explains the sequence.

Dr Ibrahim helped me today with a difficult extraction. He is my hero for the dedication, skill and professionalism shown today. It was a tough one but wow. I was in so much pain and he saved me from it. I am eternally grateful to him. Just brilliant.
Visited today for a private emergency appointment. The practice was very clean and tidy, the staff very friendly and helpful. They really listened to my concerns and put me at ease. Addressed the problem and extracted my tooth — nothing was too much trouble. Swift service — top notch.
