I called Friday evening to see if they had emergency appointments due to serious tooth pain. They were very polite and willing to accommodate. Due to me being a 45-minute drive away — the closest dentist I could find on Google that was open — they assured me they would see me when I got there. Upon arrival the staff were so polite and welcoming. The expertise and advice before the procedure was amazing. Definitely worth the trip to get the pain away. 100% recommend them.

From the Derbyshire side of the Pennines to Deepcar
Glossop has a handful of aligner providers, and their pages are alike: a free consultation, retainers included, a note that the cost will vary from patient to patient, and no figure. Directory sites fill the gap with a range from about £1,500 for a small case to over £5,000 for a complex one, which is not much use when you are deciding whether to book. None describe what the months of wearing aligners are actually like, which is the thing people quietly worry about.
Glossop patients cross the Woodhead to Deepcar Dental Care because the number is on the page, £1,495 per arch, retainers are in it, cases on the front teeth finish in four to nine months, and we open 8am to 8pm seven days, so a review can be on a Sunday morning when the pass is empty. The same dentist sees you every time and parks you for free outside the door. Below is the part the other pages skip: what a day with aligners in looks like, and the habits that make it easy.
A day in aligners: meals, coffee, meetings and the drive home
The one rule is 22 hours a day in. Everything else follows from it.
Mornings. Aligners come out, you brush, you eat, you brush again or at least rinse well, and they go back in. Breakfast at your desk becomes a bad idea, because every grazing half-hour is time the teeth spend drifting.
Drinks. Water is fine with them in; anything else is not. Tea and coffee stain the plastic brown within days, and anything with sugar or acid pools under the tray against the enamel, where it cannot be washed away. The habit that works is to take them out, drink, rinse, put them back. A coffee nursed for an hour is an hour lost; drunk in ten minutes it costs nothing.
Talking. Expect a lisp on s and z sounds for two or three days with the first set and a few hours with each new one. Nobody at work notices the aligners themselves; a few notice the lisp on day one and forget by day three.
Changing sets. Every one to two weeks, at night, following the numbers on the pouches. A new aligner feels tight and the teeth ache for a day; paracetamol as directed on the packet, and biting on the foam chewies for a few minutes, settles it. Change at bedtime so the worst hours pass asleep.
Out and about. Carry the case, always. Aligners wrapped in a napkin at a restaurant are the ones that end up in the bin. Carry the previous set in the glovebox too; if one cracks on the Woodhead, you have something to wear until we replace it.
Nights. In, always. Eight hours asleep is the easiest wear time you will get, and it does most of the work.
What surprises most patients is how quickly it becomes routine. By week three the aligners are as unremarkable as glasses, and the four-to-nine-month timeline goes by faster than the eighteen months the pages over the hill quote for full cases.

Glossop to Deepcar over the Woodhead
Take the A628 out of Glossop over the Woodhead Pass, past the reservoirs, to the Flouch roundabout, then the A616 towards Sheffield and the Stocksbridge exit. Drop down into Stocksbridge and follow Manchester Road (A6102) towards Sheffield; Deepcar Dental Care is at number 334, on the left as you leave the town, about 40 minutes from Glossop in good conditions. Free parking is outside. The Woodhead closes in heavy snow and high winds, so in winter check before setting off; we would rather move a review than have you risk it. Urgent problems between visits are handled through our Glossop emergency dentist page.

Questions, answered
Teeth straightening: questions from Glossop patients
What if the Woodhead is closed on the day of my review?
Ring us and we move it; a week’s delay does no harm as long as you stay in your current aligner. The Snake Pass and Sheffield route is the long alternative if you must come.
Are there enough visits to justify crossing the Pennines?
Seven to nine over the whole course, each review ten to fifteen minutes, spaced six to eight weeks apart and booked on quiet days. Most Glossop patients say the drive is the pleasant part.
Can I eat with the aligners in?
No; they crack and trap food. Out to eat, rinse, back in. It takes a minute.
Will people at work be able to tell?
Rarely. The trays are clear and the tooth-coloured attachments are small; the giveaway is the lisp in the first couple of days, which passes.
What if I lose an aligner on holiday?
Wear the previous one or, if you are near the end of its week, the next one, and call us. Going without for a fortnight can undo two months.
Can a missing tooth be sorted at the same time?
Straightening first so the gap is the right size, then replace; our implants for Glossop page explains the timing for patients travelling from Derbyshire.
In their own words
What patients say.
Dr Ibrahim helped me today with a difficult extraction. He is my hero for the dedication, skill and professionalism shown today. It was a tough one but wow. I was in so much pain and he saved me from it. I am eternally grateful to him. Just brilliant.
Visited today for a private emergency appointment. The practice was very clean and tidy, the staff very friendly and helpful. They really listened to my concerns and put me at ease. Addressed the problem and extracted my tooth — nothing was too much trouble. Swift service — top notch.
