Why Doncaster patients travel 45 minutes for bonding

Doncaster’s bonding pages are short. The typical one says the treatment repairs chips, cracks and gaps in one visit, notes that it is cheaper than veneers, and adds a single line that it ‘may not be as durable’. No fee, no appointment length, no named dentist, no hours.

We see Doncaster patients at Deepcar regularly, from Bessacarr, Bawtry, Armthorpe and Mexborough, and our reviews say so. They make the 45-minute drive because the fee is £300 per tooth in writing, the planning visit is part of a £85 examination, and we open 8am to 8pm seven days a week, so the trip fits a weekend. The dentist who tells you whether bonding suits you is the one who places it, and we will tell you when it does not. Free parking is outside the door.

Who composite bonding suits, and who it does not

Bonding is brilliant for some mouths and the wrong answer for others. The difference is not how bad the teeth look; it is what is causing the problem and how much force the front teeth take.

It suits you if the change you want is small in millimetres. A chipped corner, an edge worn short by a millimetre or two, a gap up to about two millimetres between front teeth, a lateral incisor that is undersized, an old discoloured filling on a front tooth, or slightly uneven edges that catch your eye in photos. In all of these the tooth is basically sound and the resin is doing a cosmetic job on top of it. No enamel needs removing, so if you ever changed your mind the tooth underneath is untouched.

It suits you if you have already whitened, or are happy with your shade, because composite cannot be bleached afterwards. If you want brighter teeth, we whiten first and bond two weeks later.

It does not suit you if the teeth are heavily broken down, because a large build-up of resin on a tooth that has lost most of its structure will not hold; a crown does that job. It does not suit deep, dark discolouration from an old root canal, because a thin layer of composite cannot mask grey and the tooth ends up looking bulky; a ceramic veneer or crown is the honest option. It is a poor choice for closing a gap wider than about three millimetres, where the two teeth end up looking oversized; a short course of aligners moves them instead.

It is risky if you grind or clench and will not wear a night guard, if you bite your nails and cannot stop, or if your bite brings the lower teeth hard against the backs of the uppers, because the resin on the biting edge takes the load. We check this on marking paper at the planning visit.

It is the wrong tool for a missing tooth or for crowding. Our composite bonding page lists what we treat most often.

At the planning visit we photograph your smile, scan the teeth and show you the proposed shapes on screen. If bonding is not the right answer, you will hear that at the £85 stage, not after you have paid for it.

Questions, answered

Composite bonding: questions from Doncaster patients

Is it worth a 45-minute drive from Doncaster just to be told bonding will not work for me?

Send us photographs by WhatsApp first on +44 7438 552 581 and we will give you an honest steer before you book. If it looks suitable, the £85 planning visit confirms it.

Can Doncaster patients have the planning and the bonding in one trip?

For one or two teeth, usually yes if you ask when booking and the teeth are suitable. For four or more we plan on the first visit and bond on a second, longer one.

What is the difference between bonding and a composite veneer?

Nothing in material. A composite veneer covers the whole front surface; bonding may only rebuild an edge or corner. We price both at £300 per tooth.

Will bonding look bulky on small teeth?

It should not. Bonding adds fractions of a millimetre, and we show you the proposed shapes on screen first. If a gap is too wide to close without oversizing the teeth, we say so.

I have lost a front tooth. Is bonding an option?

Not for the space itself. Bonding can tidy the neighbours, but the gap needs a bridge, denture or implant; see implants for Doncaster patients.

What if I break bonded tooth and cannot get a Doncaster dentist?

Ring us. We hold emergency slots every day until 8pm and repair chipped bonding on the day in most cases.

Absolutely amazing experience! From the moment I walked in, I felt completely at ease. I’ve always been a bit nervous about dental visits, but they were so kind, patient, and professional. The whole procedure was quick and painless. I walked out with a smile — both literally and figuratively. 10/10!

I have been looked after at the practice for many years. Over twenty years later my porcelain veneers are still going strong. Affordable and friendly service. Highly recommend.
