Huddersfield is one of the few towns nearby where the leading clinic publishes a bonding price, and it is £375 a tooth, with printed veneers offered alongside at £475. What the page does not do is help you choose between them. There is nothing on how long each lasts, what maintenance they need or when one is the wrong choice, and the practice has no weekend hours.
Deepcar is 35 to 40 minutes south, down through Honley and New Mill and over the Flouch. Patients from Holmfirth, Kirkburton, Almondbury and Lindley come because the bonding fee is £300 per tooth, the planning visit is part of a £85 examination with no minimum spend, and we are open 8am to 8pm seven days a week. The dentist who plans your case has a postgraduate qualification in restorative and aesthetic dentistry and does bonding, veneers and crowns, so the advice on which one you need is not shaped by which one the practice sells. Free parking is outside the door.
Three treatments can change the shape and colour of a front tooth. They differ in how much of your tooth is removed, how long they last, what they cost and what they can hide.
Composite bonding adds resin to the tooth without cutting it. Nothing is removed, so it is fully reversible and no anaesthetic is usually needed. It is done in one visit with no laboratory. It lasts five to seven years, chips more easily than ceramic, and picks up surface stain over time, which a polish removes. It cannot hide a dark tooth well, because the layer is thin. Cost: £300 a tooth. Best for chips, small gaps, worn edges, undersized teeth and minor unevenness on teeth that are otherwise sound.
Ceramic veneers are thin porcelain facings made in a laboratory and bonded to the front of the tooth. Even ‘no-prep’ veneers usually lose about half a millimetre of enamel, so the choice is permanent. They take two visits about two weeks apart with temporaries between. They keep their colour and polish for ten to fifteen years, resist stain far better than composite, and can mask moderate discolouration. They cost £750 to £1,000 a tooth. Best for a smile you want to change substantially, for discoloured teeth, and for anyone whose composite keeps chipping.
Crowns cover the whole tooth and are the only sensible option when a lot of it has already gone: a large old filling, a root-filled tooth, a fracture. £750 to £1,000, all-ceramic, two visits.
Printed or milled composite veneers, sit between the first two: composite material but made outside the mouth and bonded on as a shell. They can be very even, but they are still composite, so they wear and stain like bonding while usually needing some preparation like a veneer.
The honest rule of thumb: if the problem is a few millimetres of edge or gap on healthy teeth, bond. If the problem is colour or the whole front surface, and you accept that it is permanent, veneer. Leave Huddersfield on the A616 through Honley and New Mill, climb past Hepworth and over the Flouch crossroads, then drop down the Stocksbridge bypass. Come off at the Stocksbridge junction and follow Manchester Road down the valley towards Sheffield; we are at number 334 on the right, roughly 35 to 40 minutes from the town centre. We build composite directly in the mouth in layers rather than printing shells, so there is no outside cost, and we do not attach a minimum spend. The planning visit is £85 rather than a separate consultation fee.
Yes, and it is common: a ceramic veneer on a dark central incisor and bonding on the neighbours, for example. We match the composite to the ceramic shade so the two are indistinguishable.
Most Huddersfield patients book both visits a fortnight apart on a Saturday or Sunday, which we open for. Bonding needs only one trip.
Rarely well. Composite is too thin to block grey, and building it thicker makes the tooth look bulky. A ceramic veneer or crown, sometimes after internal whitening, is the honest answer.
