Absolutely amazing experience! From the moment I walked in, I felt completely at ease. I’ve always been a bit nervous about dental visits, but they were so kind, patient, and professional. The whole procedure was quick and painless. I walked out with a smile — both literally and figuratively. 10/10!

Composite bonding for Holmfirth patients: looking after it so it lasts

Why Holmfirth patients choose Deepcar for bonding
Bonding pages around the Holme Valley are brief. The leading one offers reshaping with ‘minimal or no preparation’ in a single visit, and its only aftercare comment is that the treatment is unsuitable for people who often have acidic food and drink, without saying why or what else matters. No price, no time in the chair, no named dentist and no sense of how long the result should last.
Deepcar is 25 to 30 minutes away on the A616, and patients from Holmfirth, Honley, Hepworth and Hade Edge make the trip because the fee is £300 per tooth in writing, the planning visit sits inside the new patient examination, the same dentist plans, places and later maintains the bonding, and we open 8am to 8pm seven days a week. We also tell you, before you pay, how to keep the result looking like day one. Free parking is at the door.
Looking after composite bonding so it lasts
Composite bonding leaves the surgery finished. Whether it still looks finished in five years depends on what happens next, and most of it is simple.
The first 24 hours. The resin is fully hard when you leave, but the bond to enamel matures over the first day. Eat normally, but skip crusty bread, nuts and anything you would tear with your front teeth until tomorrow. Tea, coffee and red wine are fine from the start; the surface has been polished and sealed.
Toothpaste. Use an ordinary fluoride toothpaste. Avoid ‘whitening’ or ‘charcoal’ pastes: they work by abrasion and they scratch composite, and a scratched surface holds stain.
Acid. This is the bit local pages hint at without explaining. Frequent acid, from fizzy drinks, fruit teas, wine or reflux, softens the enamel next to the bonding and dulls the composite surface. Bonding on an acid-eroded mouth wears at its edges and loses its shine. You do not have to give these up, but keep them to mealtimes and do not brush for half an hour afterwards. If you have reflux, tell us; it changes how we shape the edges.
Grinding. If you clench or grind, a thin night guard is part of the aftercare, not an optional extra. It costs less than redoing one tooth and it protects all of them.
Habits. Nails, pen lids, ice, bottle tops and opening packets are what chip bonded edges. The edge is a wafer well under a millimetre thick at its tip; it copes with food and not with levering.
Six-monthly polish. A hygiene visit with a fine polish takes off the surface stain that builds up on any composite and restores the gloss. Patients who keep this up are the ones whose bonding still looks new at year seven.
When something goes wrong. A chip is not an emergency, but it is worth fixing early before the rough edge catches your lip. The repair is a short visit: roughen, re-bond, add resin, polish. A bonded tooth that becomes sensitive to cold for more than a few days should be checked. The full technique is on our composite bonding page, and hygiene visits are described under hygiene and gum health.

The Holmfirth to Deepcar run over the Flouch
Take the A6024 out of Holmfirth towards Holmbridge, or the A616 via New Mill, to the Flouch crossroads, then follow the A616 down the Stocksbridge bypass. Leave at the Stocksbridge junction and turn down Manchester Road towards Sheffield; we are at number 334 on the right, about 25 to 30 minutes from Holmfirth centre. The Flouch can be slow in snow, so check the forecast in winter. Parking is free directly outside and the surgeries are on the ground floor.

Questions, answered
Composite bonding: questions from Holmfirth patients
Can I keep coming to Deepcar for the six-monthly polish, or is that too far from Holmfirth?
Most Holmfirth patients do, often on a Saturday, because the dentist who placed the bonding knows what to look for. Any hygienist can polish composite if you prefer somewhere nearer.
A local page says bonding is unsuitable if I have acidic drinks. Is that true?
Not outright. Frequent acid dulls composite and softens enamel, so we ask you to keep acidic drinks to mealtimes and we shape the edges with it in mind. It is a reason to plan carefully, not to rule bonding out.
How soon after bonding can I eat and drink?
Straight away, avoiding very hard or chewy foods for the first day. Coffee and tea are fine from the start.
How long should it last if I follow the aftercare?
Five to seven years is typical, and with a night guard where needed and regular polishing many patients pass ten. Chips are repaired rather than the tooth being redone.
I have a gap where a tooth was taken out. Will bonding cover that?
No; bonding builds onto a tooth that is still there. For the gap itself, see implants for Holmfirth patients.
What if I chip it and cannot get over the Flouch that day?
Ring us anyway; a chipped edge can wait a day or two safely. When you can travel, we hold emergency slots every day and repair it in one visit.
In their own words
What patients say.
I have been looked after at the practice for many years. Over twenty years later my porcelain veneers are still going strong. Affordable and friendly service. Highly recommend.
