We will not pretend Worksop is on our doorstep. It is 45 minutes by the A57 and M1, and for a single routine check-up there are good practices closer to home. Worksop's dentistry is dominated by a few large practices, the biggest looking after around 15,000 patients, mostly under NHS contracts, open Monday to Friday and closed at weekends and bank holidays. None of them publish private fees, and whether any are taking new NHS adults changes month to month.
The Worksop patients who come to Deepcar Dental Care do so for one of three reasons: they cannot get an NHS place and want to know a private price before committing; they work weekdays and want a Saturday or Sunday; or they need something the local practices refer out, such as a microscope root canal, an implant or sedation, and would rather have the routine care at the same place. We are private, open 8am to 8pm seven days, the first examination is £85 with X-rays, and the fee guide is public. For those patients, the sensible approach is fewer visits, well spaced, and this page is about how far apart they can safely be.
Six months is a habit, not a rule. National guidance sets the gap between check-ups by risk: anywhere from three months to two years for adults, and no more than a year for children. A healthy adult with sound gums, no new decay for years and a low-sugar diet can go 18 to 24 months between examinations. Someone with recent fillings, bleeding gums, a dry mouth from medication or a sweet tooth needs six months or less. We set your interval at the first visit and review it each time; for a Worksop patient a genuine 12 or 18 month recall is worth having.
What changes in a year. Decay is slow in enamel and faster once it reaches the softer dentine underneath. A shadow between two molars on a bitewing X-ray can sit unchanged for two years or reach the nerve in one, and diet and saliva decide which. That is why bitewings are repeated every one to three years depending on risk, rather than at every visit: they answer the question a mirror cannot, which is whether the shadow has moved. A recall without X-rays when they are due is a look, not an examination.
Gums do not send warnings. Gum disease is painless until teeth loosen. The six-point pocket measurements at each recall are the only early signal; 1 to 3 mm is healthy, 4 mm with bleeding is early disease, and a change of a millimetre in a year matters. Hygiene visits every three to six months keep it there, and a hygiene appointment can be paired with your recall on the same day.
What shortens a safe interval. A new medication that dries the mouth, a change to frequent snacking, a new grinding habit after a stressful year, pregnancy, or a filling that has started to catch floss. Any of those, tell us and we bring the recall forward. Toothache does not respect intervals either, which is why the emergency examination is £30 and available seven days including bank holidays.
What lengthens it. Spitting rather than rinsing after brushing, cleaning between the teeth daily, and sugar at mealtimes only. Do those three and most adults earn a longer gap, which for a Worksop patient means fewer trips up the M1. The general dentistry page covers what the examination itself includes.

Take the A57 west from Worksop to the M1 at junction 31, north to junction 35A, then the A616 west for eight miles to the Stocksbridge bypass and Manchester Road (A6102) into Deepcar.
