I called Friday evening to see if they had emergency appointments due to serious tooth pain. They were very polite and willing to accommodate. Due to me being a 45-minute drive away — the closest dentist I could find on Google that was open — they assured me they would see me when I got there. Upon arrival the staff were so polite and welcoming. The expertise and advice before the procedure was amazing. Definitely worth the trip to get the pain away. 100% recommend them.

Rotherham to Deepcar: when the motorway is the fastest way to a dentist
Most Rotherham patients find us the same way: a late-night search, a call answered by a dentist rather than an answering service, and a slot the next morning. Rotherham has its own dentists, and many of our patients from S60, S61 and S65 have one; the difficulty is being seen this week rather than in three, and being seen at a weekend at all. Deepcar Dental Care keeps emergency appointments free every day, Saturday and Sunday included, and treats about eight in ten emergency callers on the day they phone, with no registration or referral. The trade-off is the drive: 21 kilometres and about 35 minutes door to door, most of it on the M1.
What NHS 111 and Rotherham Hospital can and cannot do for a tooth
For NHS urgent dental care from Rotherham, NHS 111 is the route, by phone or online, and their dental triage runs 24 hours a day. NHS South Yorkshire is candid that urgent slots are not available round the clock and that you may need to travel to reach one. Rotherham Hospital's Urgent and Emergency Care Centre on Moorgate Road is open 24 hours, and it is the right place if a dental infection has become a medical emergency: swelling spreading down the neck or up towards the eye, trouble swallowing or breathing, a high fever with a swollen face, a suspected broken jaw or bleeding that will not stop.
The hospital also has a dental department at Woodside on the same site, but that works on referrals rather than walk-ins. What no emergency department can do is fix the tooth, so for pain without those danger signs the destination is a dentist, and our weekend and out-of-hours care page explains who to ring at each hour of the day.
The drive: Meadowbank Road, the M1 and the Stocksbridge bypass
From Rotherham town centre, take Centenary Way and the A629 to Meadowbank Road, the A6109, which joins the M1 at junction 34 beside Meadowhall. Head north to junction 35A and leave onto the A616 Stocksbridge bypass heading west. After about ten minutes on the A616, leave at the Deepcar junction, drop down into the village and turn onto Manchester Road; the practice is on the right with free parking directly outside. Route planners give 21 kilometres and 19 minutes with empty roads; 30 to 35 minutes is realistic, and longer if the M1 has stopped at Tinsley. From Wath and Swinton, the A633 to junction 36 and then the A616 is shorter.
Rotherham Interchange to Manchester Road by train, tram and bus
It can be done, but plan for an hour and a half. From Rotherham Central, take the train to Sheffield, walk to the tram and ride the Yellow route to Middlewood, then the Stagecoach 57 up the valley to Manchester Road in Deepcar. From Rotherham Interchange, a bus into Sheffield and the same connection works just as well.
Night-time toothache, cracked teeth and root canals from Rotherham
Rotherham calls cluster around three things:
- Toothache that has climbed over a few nights from a twinge to a throb that keeps you awake, with painkillers barely touching it. See sharp shooting tooth pain.
- A tooth that hurts on release when you bite, often one that has carried a filling for years, which is the classic sign of a crack. See cracked tooth.
- A tooth that has already been told it needs a root canal but nobody could start it. We can do the first stage on the day to stop the pain and finish it later, here or with your own dentist. See emergency root canal treatment.
The first stage of a root canal removes the inflamed nerve and seals the tooth. For most people the pain falls away within hours, because the tissue that was generating it is no longer there. Our associate Nik, who holds a postgraduate certificate in endodontics, completes root canals under a microscope, which matters most for the narrow, curved roots that cause treatment to fail when they are missed.
Costs and how they are agreed
£30 for the examination and X-rays, a temporary root canal stage from £200, a full root canal from £450, and an extraction from £120. Prices are put in writing before treatment, an out-of-hours charge applies after 6pm on weekdays and at weekends, and 0% finance over 6 to 18 months is available through Tabeo, subject to status. See emergency dental fees for the full list and same-day emergency appointment for how the visit runs.

Questions, answered
Questions from Rotherham patients
Is it quicker to come to Deepcar than to wait for NHS 111 from Rotherham?
For most people, yes. NHS 111 can assess you at any hour, but the urgent appointment it finds may not be today and may be some distance away. We are 35 minutes up the M1 and see most emergency callers the same day.
Which M1 junction do I use from Rotherham?
Join at junction 34 by Meadowhall or 33 from the Parkway, head north and leave at junction 35A for the A616 Stocksbridge bypass. Come off the A616 at the Deepcar junction and the practice is on Manchester Road.
Can I be seen on a Saturday from Rotherham?
Yes. We are open 8am to 8pm on Saturdays and Sundays with emergency slots held each day. A weekend charge applies in addition to the £30 examination and is confirmed when you book.
Will you start a root canal at the first visit?
Yes, if that is what the tooth needs. The first stage removes the nerve and dresses the tooth, which settles the pain; the remaining stages are booked afterwards, with us or with your own dentist.
Should I go to Rotherham Hospital with toothache?
Only if there are danger signs: swelling that is spreading, difficulty swallowing or breathing, a high fever, a suspected broken jaw or uncontrolled bleeding. For toothache without those, the emergency department will give pain relief and advise you to see a dentist.
Do you see patients from Wath, Wickersley and Maltby as well?
Yes. Anywhere in the borough is within about 40 minutes of the practice by the M1. Give us your postcode when you ring and we will suggest the simplest route.

Dr Ibrahim helped me today with a difficult extraction. He is my hero for the dedication, skill and professionalism shown today. It was a tough one but wow. I was in so much pain and he saved me from it. I am eternally grateful to him. Just brilliant.
Visited today for a private emergency appointment. The practice was very clean and tidy, the staff very friendly and helpful. They really listened to my concerns and put me at ease. Addressed the problem and extracted my tooth — nothing was too much trouble. Swift service — top notch.
